Children younger than 2 are in a critical period of brain development that requires hands on learning. Screen time should be avoided beyond video chats with relatives. Children older than 2 are at a stage in brain development where tablets or computer apps can be implemented educationally in limited and interactive fashion, with parents still acting as the teacher. Parents still must play the key role in their child’s learning, using the device as a medium to interact and learn with their child. Educational apps offer much more to your 2+ year old child’s development than video clips or movies. We will be trying our best to be available for your child’s needs this week during the blizzards. We will remain available for sick visits for those who are able to safely travel. If conditions merit, we may delay preventive visits…to prevent accidents in slippery weather. Please do not travel if conditions are unsafe or your vehicle isn’t prepared for bad weather. We’ll do our best to keep our lot as plowed as possible for access, but please be cautious. As always, we’ll be available by phone and email as well. Have fun in the snow, and stay safe and cozy!

To help keep your child’s skin safe and healthy this Summer, be sure to follow the advice at the link for safer sunscreens!  Loose fitting light clothing, hats and sunglasses (where possible!) are also key.  We recommend keeping sunscreen by your front door or where you get your child ready as a reminder to use it daily.  Before using any new sunscreen, be sure to test a patch on your child’s leg for 2-3 hours to observe for tolerance.  While some sunscreen sprays now have safer ingredients, they can still be an irritant for breathing, especially if your child has any breathing issues like asthma.  Creams would be better, and don’t forget after sun moisturizing, as the sun really dries out the skin.  Water, vision, dental, helmet safety all still apply, of course.  Proceed with caution, and have fun safely this Summer! Click HERE for the 2018 updated sunscreen guide!
